Blessed are those who do not stumble
by David Lazarus

Read Luke 7:18-35

Luke 7vs 23 spoken for John Baptist.

John is in prison because preached about Yeshua.

Wondering if Yeshua is going to bring God’s justice. Set us free?

Are you the one who is going to save us?

Yeshua tells them to tell John that there are;

Healings and mercy on the people

“These are the signs of the Kingdom and you are going to have to believe in me no matter what happens to you”

Turns to the people to teach them what he wants John to understand.

Vs 24-27 Who did you go to see?

Reed?

Man in soft clothes? Soft garments live in palaces. You didn’t come out to the desert to see that.

Prophet? Yes. You wanted the Word of the Lord.

Not watered down, fell good about yourself message.

You wanted to change your life. Tired of hypocritical games.

Spirit of conviction and repentance fell upon the nation.

Who was John the baptizer?

Prepare for coming of Messiah

Feared no man

Spoke God’s word

Not looking for a following

Word for everybody

7:29 Tax collectors and people received.

7:30 Pharisees missed plan of God

Explains why:

7:31-34

“Played the flute, you did not dance, mourned you didn’t weep”

Everybody else is doing it, why don’t you?

John fasts and is very serious:

Cheer up. Not so serious. Not so bad.

Don’t be so radical.

Look at trouble you are in because of your message. (Jail)

Be nice to people. Have mercy. Don’t worry be happy.

Yeshua parties, dinner, wine at weddings, fish and bread, women and perfume, people getting happy:

You’re not serious enough

Why don’t your disciples fast?

Why don’t you go around telling everybody how sinful they are

No matter what you do people are going to be against it.

We cannot live by what people think or do.

Same thing Yeshua says on Sermon on the Mount.
Mat. 7:13-14

1. Narrow.

Different. Not like everyone else.

Difference between you and the rest of the people

2. Focused. Disciplined life.

Paul compares to sport, running. To win must be focused on goal. Not worried about what others are thinking.

3. Few on this way.

Just because everyone thinks something is good doesn’t make it good.

Reason Tax collectors and people received.

Not afraid of being hated, different. This made them great followers of Yeshua.

Pharisees religious but not willing to be outside the camp

Luke 7:23

Doesn’t let the crowd define truth for you.

Not afraid to stand up for what you believe

Heb. 13:13-15
