Abraham At Hebron
by David Lazarus

Gen.14: 18-24

Abraham is on his way back after having defeated the 4 Kings who had attacked Sodom in order to rescue his nephew Lot. Melchizedek, King of Salem, priest of El Elyon, comes out to greet him with bread and wine and blesses Abraham saying:

14:19-20

“Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand”

Melkizedek teaches Abrahm that God delivered the enemy into Abraham’s hand.

Thru Melkizedek Abraham gets revelation of Sovereignty of God.

“Blessed to El Elyon”

El Elyon is described as “Konne” “Creator of heaven and earth”.

Not the usual word “Bore” used for create or creator, but “Konne”

1. “Reed or a Rod” which was used as a stick of standard length for measuring things. “Measured exactly according to the pattern determined.”

El Elyon, Konne creator of heaven and earth means that God has designed all of creation according to the pattern he desires.

God is sovereign to make what he wants, the way he wants.

David uses “Konne” in 139:13, “For you created my inmost being.”

Kidney—personality

Personality. The Almighty “measured” or designed who he is.

Characteristics, gifting and abilities.

The Psalm says that our physical bodies are unique design that God fashioned.

“I am wonderful not because I am strong, beautiful, good musician—but because God made me.”

What about the person with disabilities?

John 9:1-5

Are we willing to allow our physical and emotional disabilities to bring Glory to God?

Jer. 1: 5

Who you are is no accident

You are the result of Design, Engineer, Purpose.

God doesn’t look at us the day we become believers and say, “Let’s see, how can I best use this Brother?”

Your entire life has been designed by God

No one is greater or lesser.

Greatest thing in life is fulfill God’s purposes for what you are designed.

To be blessed by El Elyon Kone Shamim and Aretz is to know that there is a meaning and purpose in every situation in life. It is to know that my life has value and that meaning. Who I am and what happens to me in life is determined by a loving God.

It is to know that whatever situation you might be facing right now in your life, there is some purpose in it. There is something God wants you to learn. Something he wants you to do.

Looking at a situation by faith or living by faith means knowing the character and nature of God, how he would think about and deal with the situation, and doing what God would have us do in that situation.

It is faith that believes in God no matter what the circumstance are.

Abraham’s faith was not that certain things would happen.

It was in God’s Character, who he is.

So when this King of Sodom now comes to Abraham and offers him to “keep the goods for yourself,” Abraham replies:

14:22-23 “I have raised my hands to the Lord, El Elyon, Creator “Konne” of heaven and earth, and have taken an oath that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the thong of your sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’”

2. “Konne” is that El Elyon has ownership over all things.

This is the modern Hebrew word for “to buy”

That’s why Abraham responds by “giving him a tenth (tithe) of everything” (14:20). Biblical meaning of the tithe.

It is not that God deserves ten percent of what we have.

But that everything belongs to God.

It is Abraham’s acknowledgment, that El Elyon, God Most High, is owner of everything.

Abraham could have easily thought, “This is the reward for what I have done rescuing Lot and getting all the people back for King of Sodom.”

But he wanted more than riches; he wanted his life to have meaning for El Elyon. Meaning and purpose greater than just the circumstances.
